Types of FSSAI License
- Basic Registration — Turnover below ₹12 lakh/year (Home businesses, petty shops)
- State License — Turnover ₹12L to ₹20Cr (Restaurants, hotels, mid-size manufacturers)
- Central License — Turnover above ₹20Cr or operating in multiple states
- Import/Export License — For importing or exporting food products
Who Needs FSSAI?
Restaurants, cafes, cloud kitchens, food delivery businesses, grocery stores, manufacturers, importers, exporters, home-based food businesses (tiffin services, bakers), and online food sellers all need FSSAI registration.

Yes! If you run a tiffin service, home bakery, or any food business from home, you need at minimum a Basic FSSAI Registration.
FSSAI licenses are valid for 1–5 years (you choose at time of application) and must be renewed before expiry.
Penalties range from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Repeated violations can lead to business closure.
